My darling daughter has taking up baking this past year. Knowing my interest for the medicine wheel she made me this cookie. This is an example of how NOT to harvest bark from a tree. I was on a nice winter hike when I came upon these trees. It was such a bummer to see. I had to stop and show my kids and teach them why this was a bad thing. Stripping the bark around the entire circumference of the trunk of a tree is sure to kill it. To harvest bark, it is best to collect it from fallen or freshly pruned branches. If that is not an option try to cut from a low hanging branch. When harvesting cut the bark vertically. And only take what you need. #harvestingtrees #wildcrafting #foraging #trees #savetrees #foragingtips #wildcraftingwisdom
