What Are Ayurvedic Principles?

Ancient wisdom for modern balance.

Welcome to the Heart of Ayurveda

Ayurveda (pronounced eye-yer-VAY-duh) is a 5,000-year-old system of natural healing that originated in India. The word itself means “knowledge of life.”
At Wild Alex Wellness, Ayurvedic principles guide everything from the herbs we select to the food we suggest and the practices we share.

It’s not a trend — it’s a timeless system that reminds us:
You are nature. When you live in rhythm with nature, you heal.

1. The Five Elements (Pancha Mahabhutas)

Everything in nature — including you — is made up of space, air, fire, water, and earth. These elements combine uniquely to form your constitution, or dosha.

2. The Three Doshas

Your constitution is your mind-body type. Knowing it helps you understand your unique needs, tendencies, and imbalances. The constitution is determined by the proportions of the doshas that are predominate in the body.

  • Vata (Air + Space)
    Light, dry, cool, creative
Out of balance? Anxiety, constipation, dryness
  • Pitta (Fire + Water)
    Intense, sharp, hot, focused
Out of balance? Irritability, inflammation, burnout
  • Kapha (Water + Earth)
    Grounded, nurturing, slow, stable
Out of balance? Sluggishness, weight gain, attachment

Everyone has all three doshas — but in different proportions.

3. Like Increases Like, Opposites Balance

One of the most important Ayurvedic concepts:
What you do, eat, and think can either increase or balance your dosha.

Too much heat (spicy food + summer heat + stressful schedule)? A fiery Pitta burns out.

Feeling heavy and slow in winter? A Kapha may need movement, lightness, and spice.

This principle guides how we work together — whether through herbs, food, or daily rituals.

4. Dinacharya (Daily Rhythms)

Ayurveda is all about rhythmic living — aligning your routines with the cycles of the sun, moon, and seasons.

  • Wake with the sun
  • Eat your biggest meal at midday
  • Wind down before sunset
  • Prioritize sleep and stillness at night

When you live in rhythm, your digestion, energy, mood, and immunity naturally improve.

5. Agni (Digestive Fire)

Your digestion — or agni — is the gatekeeper of health.
Everything we do in Ayurveda works to protect, restore, and strengthen your digestive fire.

Whether you’re healing from chronic bloating or burnout, we begin by kindling your agni through:

  • Warm, cooked seasonal foods
  • Herbal support
  • Mindful eating practices
  • Restorative movement and breath

At Wild Alex Wellness, Ayurveda is not about rigid rules or outdated dogma.
It’s about honoring your individuality, your season of life, and your connection to nature.

We combine Ayurvedic principles with modern clinical herbalism, intuitive nutrition, and embodied practices so you can:

✔ Feel more grounded
✔ Improve digestion
✔ Build sustainable energy
✔ Prevent illness
✔ Learn to trust your body again
